Water Samples

2017 (ongoing)

Water from 100 Locations,

100 Glass Bottles

Each Bottle 9 in x 3 in

This in-progress series examines water’s ability to retain information. Utilizing studies from Japanese researcher Dr. Masaru Emoto, this body of work investigates the concept of water having memory: that water makes an imprint of any outside influence, remembering everything that occurs in the space surrounding it.

Water From the River Seine

This installation exposes water from the River Seine to various colors and patterns painted on found objects from Marnay Sur Seine, France. After fifteen days of exposure, the water crystals were examined to see if certain colors influenced the molecular structures, negatively or positively. Five out of twenty samples of water resulted in specific changes related to their surroundings. None were negative or positive - instead, their molecular structures began to mimic the shapes of the found objects by which they were influenced.

This installation exposes water from the Lake Bolsena to various colors and patterns painted on found objects from around the lake.

This sculpture of the Goddess Sequana (Seine) is located at the mouth of the River Seine, near Dijon, France. A tiny black hole lies below her where the river bubbles up from the ground and feeds the remaining part of the country. The water sample attained from here was not exposed to any colors or patterns. Instead, it was frozen one week after I removed it from the source. This image shows the structure of the water crystal and it’s comparison to its surroundings at Source Seine, France.
